During this January elopement, Kaitlyn and Jairo braved the Colorado winter to elope on a glacier. Kaitlyn dawned leggings AND jeans under her dress, but was still freezing as the snow fell around them. It was a light snow, one like you would see in a snow globe, and there was no wind. As we hiked up the steep trail to the elopement location, all we could hear was our heartbeat and our spikes entering the packed down snow trail. THANK YOU JESUS FOR MICRO-SPIKES AND TREKKING POLES!
At the top of the trail, the frozen glacial lake and the vast landscape popped out in front of us. We stood in silence for a minute as we admired the steep peaks in front of us. It made for the perfect backdrop for a winter Colorado elopement on top of a glacier.
This elopement was something special. A boho dress, falling snow, some cheap Whole Foods flowers, and a ton of love. Elopements don’t have to be anything fancy as long as you are surrounded by what matters: love and great people. Maybe great views too 🙂
We packed lots of hand warmers and extra layers in case the frozen lake was windy. However, it was calm and serene. We practically had the whole place to ourselves and took our time as we climbed rocks & danced through the trees. Not saying that I am an avid dancer, but when fun couples and snow are involved, I like to boogie under the falling flakes.
We danced on the frozen lake, slid around with our snow boots on, and wrapped up in blankets to stay warm during “I do’s.”
Kaitlyn and Jairo’s Colorado elopement day in the mountains could not have been more perfect.
