McKenna and Tony’s microwedding day will always hold a special place in my heart. This intimate destination wedding on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California was the very first destination wedding I had ever captured. It’s safe to say that this wedding sparked such a joy in my heart for microweddings.
This sweet couple got married on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. One of my sister’s friends told me she was looking for a photographer for her destination wedding, and the rest is history! Being from the Midwest, I flew out to California and stayed with a photographer friend the entire week before to adventure and “chill” before the wedding day (Laura Minor – check her out!) We took the ferry out to the island (and I got sea sick of course) a few days before the wedding to spend some time exploring and scoping out the best locations. We even rented electric bikes to get us around the island quickly!
The morning of the wedding, Laura and I met up with the bridal party, and then rode on golf carts to the private resort in Avalon that the family members were staying at. We took getting ready photos of the groom at the resort while the bride got ready at an AirBnB. Wedding party photos also occurred at the resort, along with the intimate first look between the bride and groom. We adventured around the island before ceremony time.
McKenna and Tony said “I do” on the rooftop of Toyon Grill with views of the water below. The guest list was kept small and included the people closest to the bride and groom’s hearts. After they were finally a married couple, we adventured down to the marina to take some romantics of the newlyweds. Cheers to the happy couple; thank you for trusting me to capture your love, and for bringing me across the country to celebrate!
