If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good love story. Cass and AJ made the drive from Orange County for their So Cal Desert State Park vow renewal (sorry, classified location!) on their 10 year dating anniversary (and 3 year wedding anniversary)! Photographing a couple on their wedding day is so special, and the feeling is still the same for a vow renewal. Add in the vast openness of the desert and I’m sold. 

Cass and AJ go as far back as high school when they were both in the marching band. Becoming best friends before they began dating, they’ve been inseparable ever since; their love is so abundantly evident. Flash forward to today? They are a photography and videography duo! Having the opportunity to capture such a sweet moment in their relationship after all these years was so incredibly special. We met up at noon for Cass to get her hair and makeup done before a quick 30 minute drive to the first location. In typically Southern California desert-fashion, we were greeted by a total wind storm. Cass and AJ were such troopers throughout their renewal as they were pelted with endless sand. Believe it or not, it made for some really fun, unique portraits full of genuine laughter. 

Golden Hour in the Desert

After we wrapped up at our first location, we drove to a beautiful canyon that we hiked down into. Luckily, the wind had calmed down quite a bit at this point! The golden sunshine peeked through the glimmering redish orange canyon walls and surrounded us in warmth. We took in the stunning views and frolicked as the sun began to set along the horizon. Golden hour left us with the most beautiful blue hour atop the canyon overlooking the valley below. With brush-like strokes of blue and purple, the sky continued to amaze us as Cass and AJ wandered down the blacktop road.
