11 Activities for a Spring Elopement in Glacier National Park
One of the most underrated times to elope in Glacier National Park is springtime. Believe it or not, not many people think of eloping in Montana in the Spring. Listen, I get it! The weather is a bit harder to predict in the early months of the year. You may encounter muddy conditions and mild weather, or snow and ice. However, eloping between the months of early April-early June is still amazing. Not only will you avoid tourist season, but you’ll get to enjoy the beauty of the unpopular areas of the park or see the popular areas in a new light. Ready to tie the knot!? Stick around for 11 Activities for a Spring elopement in Glacier National Park.
It’s no secret that I prefer Glacier National Park from May to the beginning of June. While Spring starts in March, it seems to arrive a little later in Montana. Another plus-side of visiting from May-June is that there aren’t a ton of tourists and you still have the opportunity for beautiful, mild weather! This is the best time to have a more private experience and enjoy the beauty of Glacier National Park.
Best Spring Activities in GNP
Biking: Going to the Sun Road opens for one to two weeks just for hikers and bikers! If you’re the adventurous type and want to rent (or bring) bikes, this is an incredible opportunity for insane views! And, not too many people can say they’ve done this!
Hiking: Pro Tip – take advantage of trails in lower elevations since they start to lose their snow quicker. (CLICK HEREfor the best hikes in Glacier National Park.)
Picnicking: Highly recommend having a sweet picnic along Lake McDonald’s shore. Uff. I am craving this right now.
Wildlife Viewing: Many Glacier offers incredible opportunities to check out the emerging of wildlife coming back after a long winter. Typically we spot bears, moose, and big horn sheep wandering around in the spring in this area.
Hit the Water: What an awesome time to paddle on one of many alpine lakes. I personally provide Pack Rafts for my clients, but you could also canoe or kayak! Lake McDonald, St. Mary, and Swiftcurrent are some great GNP lakes to check out.
Fly Fishing: If you know me, you know this is a no-brainer. 😅
Star Gazing: There’s a reason Montana is called Big Sky Country. The stars (and Northern Lights) are absolutely unreal from Glacier National Park. There are literally ONE MILLION acres of nature to enjoy at GNP. Which really means there’s NO LIGHT POLLUTION!
Camping: There are so many great campsites in the area that aren’t busy in the Spring. You could also opt for a glamping experience nearby in a cute canvas tent. (You’ll have the most luck booking a glamping experience in early June!)
Sight Seeing: Polebridge, Bowman Lake, Two Medicine, Lake Josephine… you name it! There’s not a bad view in sight.
Brewery Hopping: After a long time exploring the great outdoors, there’s nothing more rewarding than enjoying a cold one!
