If there’s two things I love, it’s madly in-love couples and being immersed in the mountains. As a Montana elopement and intimate wedding photographer, I’m no stranger to getting lost in the Northern Rocky Mountains. But you can guarantee I’ll take any chance to zip up to Alaska for some sight-seeing, fly fishing, and sweet nuptials. Rachel and Devin’s foggy 2-day adventure elopement at Hatcher Pass, Alaska was the perfect balance between romantic and intimate.
These lovebirds have been together for well over a decade, but you’d never be the wiser. The love and adoration they share for one another is such a beautiful thing to witness. For their Alaska elopement, they opted for a 2-day adventure. If you’ve been an avid reader of the blog, you’ll know that 2-day elopements have a special place in my heart. Rachel and Devin’s elopement was the perfect example of how to curate 48 hours tailored 100% to themselves.
Rachel and Devin opted for a more casual experience to kick off their 2-day adventure elopement. No matter what time of year it is, Alaska’s weather is pretty unpredictable. Rather than soaking in some golden sunshine amongst the dewy greenery, we were met with fog, mist, and gloom. But to be honest, it was a vibe (and pretty on brand for Alaska). Rachel and Devin are two of the most go-with-the-flow humans I’ve had the honor of photographing. Despite the chilly temperatures and thick air, we had a blast strolling through the hills. I couldn’t have possibly loved Rachel and Devin’s outfits more. Rachel wore a black jumpsuit over a chunky knit sweater, paired with Birkenstock clogs. Devin wore classic dark jeans, brown loafers, and an olive-toned button-up over a tan t-shirt. Did I take notes to add to my own wardrobe? Yes.
Day 2 of Rachel and Devin’s dreamy Alaska elopement gave way to more (welcomed) gloom. I don’t quite know how to explain it, but the atmosphere was just unbeatable; I felt like we were on the set of Game of Thrones, tucked away in the moors of Ireland. But I might be getting ahead of myself…
Rachel and Devin began their elopement day with getting ready at an Airbnb. Their flat lay had me swooning as I artfully put together each detail. Their vow books and ring boxes were the perfect vibe for the gloom. But my favorite elements had to be the Alaska map, floral stamps, and lush florals. And can we just talk about Rachel’s dress?! Uff. It just screamed “vintage night gown meets elegant wedding dress” in the best way. The drapery of her sleeves, the unique buttons just off her waist trailing to an elegant slit were just stunning. (Can you tell the dress stole my heart!?)
After an intimate first look with Devin in front of the lodge, the soon-to-be newlyweds sat out on the deck to copy their vows into their vow books. It was actually such a beautiful, unique twist to witness the bride and groom sitting side by side pouring their hearts out on paper.
Once the vows were transferred, we headed up to Hatcher Pass for their intimate ceremony and some moody, foggy bridal portraits. Despite the overcast skies, flowers were blooming and wildlife was frolicking (peep the sweet little fox). Rachel and Devin’s foggy 2-day adventure elopement at Hatcher Pass, Alaska came to an end with some PB&J sandwiches and some postcard writing. I felt like just a fly on the wall as they snacked on their sammies and recounted their adventure in the back of their rental car.
Alaska has quickly become one of my favorite places on Mama Earth. 2024 will take me back to the Last Frontier a few times, and I’m already counting down the days until I’m back.
