I wanted to name this blog, “The One Where Sydney Takes Texas”, but I don’t think Google would give me many hits! As a Montana elopement and intimate wedding photographer, I’m definitely partial to immersing myself in the mountains. But every part of my soul loved this Austin, Texas edgy Western wedding. The second their inquiry entered my inbox in June 2022 after seeing my work on TikTok, I was pumped for their intimate wedding. With a small guest list of roughly 60, the vision for Gabrielle and Dakota’s day came together seamlessly.
Gabrielle and Dakota’s early November wedding began at the stunning Asante Lodging and Events in Dripping Springs, Texas. Throughout the wedding planning process, both Gabrielle and Dakota were certain about one thing: they love their families. Their wedding morning began with a brunch surrounded by their closest people, smiles spread ear-to-ear. I always love when a couple leans into their wishes, and isn’t afraid to make their dreams come true. Witnessing the couple buzzing about, laughing, and soaking up quality time before getting ready was just such a breath of fresh air.
After brunch, Gabrielle and Dakota went their separate ways to begin getting ready. I don’t think I even have the proper vocabulary to describe just how stunning this duo was on their wedding day. The entire theme of their wedding was “vintage cowboy” – “cowboy hats and bolo ties” – and yes, they delivered. Their color palette of dusty olive, terracotta, and rust made for the most beautiful accents throughout the venue space.
Dakota wore a floral-print lined Western frock coat, a tan cowboy hat, and snakeskin cowboy boots. Gabrielle’s elegant satin gown with detachable tulle sleeves fit her like a glove. My favorite part of Gabrielle’s bridal attire though were her custom Vans. The right show was embroidered with a scene from their proposal; the left shoe embroidered with them standing below the wrought iron arch at Asante sharing their first kiss as husband and wife. The combination of Gabrielle and Dakota’s edgy personal styles with the chic Western vibes was the definition of “chef’s kiss”.
If you’re an avid reader of the blog, you’ll know that I’ve given up on trying to fight back tears on wedding days. After all Gabrielle and Dakota’s first look would’ve made it real hard if I was trying to look tough. Their love story has been in the making since 2016; you could just tell how “right” it felt to finally be happening as they stood before one another before their ceremony. Once everyone had composed themselves enough, it was time for the lovely couple to make it official. The late afternoon sunshine was a beautiful addition to Gabrielle and Dakota’s intimate ceremony beneath ancient oak trees.
Like I mentioned, family and friends were the forefront of the bride and groom’s wedding day. Cocktail hour was spent socializing, catching up, and celebrating – just as it should be! The excitement and joy in the air was contagious. I was able to sneak away with Gabrielle and Dakota for some dreamy sunset photos. Between stealing kisses and throwing up finger guns, we had the best time exploring the venue’s grounds.
You’ve probably already guessed that a couple this rad would have a lit wedding reception (and you’d be right). Family and friends dined on tacos while a mariachi band played beneath twinkling lights. As soon as the sun dipped below the horizon, the DJ had everyone breaking it down on the dance floor. Just as I love a couple breaking the status quo of their wedding day, I love when a couple really lets loose and just celebrates the start of their marriage.
Gabrielle and Dakota’s Austin, Texas edgy Western wedding was one for the books. The bride and groom were two of the easiest people to celebrate; their hospitality and joy was something to admire. I couldn’t be more grateful for TikTok for bringing these two gems into my life. Have I mentioned lately just how much I love my job!?
Whether you’re tying the knot on the side of a mountain, beneath the desert sun, or somewhere in-between, I’d be honored to document your happiest day. I have limited availability remaining for 2024, and have already began booking for 2025! Don’t wait to reach out; I can’t wait to connect! And of course, be sure to head over to the ‘Gram if you’re in need of wedding or elopement planning tips (or to just swoon over my beautiful couples).
Until next time, are you ready to wander?
