The life of a Northwestern Montana wedding photographer during the summer months is a busy one. If you’re an avid reader of the blog, you probably noticed that things went pretty dark on my end over the Summer. But luckily, it was for the best reason — I was busy capturing a plethora of love stories! While I’ll still keep pretty busy until the snow flies, I have loved reminiscing on the past several months. Jess and Wyatt’s Glacier National Park family-oriented microwedding officially kicked off the summer elopement season on June 25th. With endless views, a bright color palette, and quality time spent celebrating alongside loved ones, it was a great way to kick-off summer weddings in the mountains.
Jess and Wyatt are another sweet couple that came to Glacier National Park from my home-state of Minnesota — which is always such a fun thing to bond over. But I’d by lying if I said I wasn’t immediately reeled in by them because of their love story. How I have captured so many couples whose love stories feel they are straight out of a romantic novel is beyond me! Jess and Wyatt met truly by happenstance when Jess was on a party bus celebrating a coworker’s college graduation. By the grace of God, Wyatt was invited by one of Jess’ coworkers to come celebrate as well. While Jess made the first move, Wyatt remarked that he was instantly drawn in by Jess’ big smile and her curly hair.
I know what you’re thinking, “oh, that sounds like a pretty normal love story!” Well, sure…but their THIRD date was a week-long trip to Australia! And their adventures didn’t stop there. Once Jess and Wyatt returned to Minnesota, he met her parents before she immediately took off to Chattanooga, TN for a job opportunity. After doing long-distance for a time, Wyatt packed up and moved to Chattanooga just before the pandemic started. Jess and Wyatt spent the following months immersing themselves in the Carolinas and Georgia. Missing life back in Minnesota, they moved back home in the summer of 2021, bought a house, and now have an adorable son together. From Australia to a quaint town in Minnesota, their love story has been a whirlwind.
It only felt right for these two to tie the knot in a place that felt just as adventurous as the rest of their lives. While they had both been to Montana in the past, neither Jess or Wyatt had traveled to Glacier National Park. What better place to say “I do”!? With their favorite people in tow, Jess and Wyatt set out to Glacier National Park for their family-oriented microwedding. Jess spent the morning getting ready at one of my favorite Northwest Montana vacation rentals — Stay Treetops — alongside her sisters, best friend, and mom. The couple’s son even made an appearance while his Mama got glam; he wore the cutest little overalls, velcro slides, and bowtie. I do my best to not share images of kiddos (because the world is scary), so please just trust me when I say how cute he was!
After Jess and Wyatt were both ready, they shared a joyful first look out on the front patio of their vacation rental. We then made the drive from Stay Treetops to Glacier National Park for their ceremony. Once we reached Pray Lake, Jess was joined by her parents to walk her down the rocky path to her sweet groom. Guests lined both sides of the path, wearing the bride’s requested playful, summery colors. After exchanging vows and rings, Jess and Wyatt shared their first kiss before popping champagne and celebrating with their guests.
Once we wrapped up group pictures, the guests headed back to Stay Treeptops while the newlyweds hung back for an adventure. The sun graced us just as we began newlywed portraits at Pray Lake, which was so very welcomed! We then made our way up to Sun Point where the sun was fully shining down. The water below at St. Mary Lake was a brilliant shade of blue, and made for such a gorgeous backdrop for Jess and Wyatt. If you’ve read the blog before, you know how habitually windy it usually is at Sun Point, but on this day, we only had a gentle breeze to contend with!
After soaking up the sunshine, we stopped at Logan Pass for sight-seeing and more romantics. The mountains still had a blanket of snow coating the sides, so Jess and Wyatt got to stroll through snow on their JUNE wedding day! The contrast between blooming wildflowers, lush greenery, and snowy mountains is always one of my favorite parts of late Spring and early Summer weddings in Glacier National Park.
We made one final stop at Going-to-the-Sun Road before making the drive back to the vacation rental. Back at Stay Treetops, tables were lined with colorful chalice glasses and wildflowers. String lights hung overhead while everyone dined, danced, and snuggled with all the kiddos running around. There was no shortage of love in the air as everyone mingled and celebrated Jess and Wyatt.
Jess and Wyatt’s Glacier National Park family-oriented microwedding checked off all the boxes for what they envisioned for their wedding day. Panoramic views, loved ones, and quality time spent adventuring together as newlyweds. There’s nothing I love more than witnessing a couple’s day come to life after spending months envisions how it will come together. Another magical, intentional wedding in Glacier National Park that I will forever be grateful to have captured.
