If there’s one thing that peeks my interest the most in an elopement inquiry, it’s the mentioning of “mountains” (no pun intended). Combine that with a proposal couple reaching out for me to photograph their elopement!? That’s a surefire way to make me just giddy. Documenting Jordan and Rachel’s Boulder, Colorado sunrise elopement at Lost Gulch Overlook was as magical as they come. Their dreams of “kickass mountain views” and a stress-free day centered around their beautiful love came together perfectly surrounded by their closest people.
If you’ve been a reader of the Sydney Breann Photography Blog for awhile, you might remember Jordan and Rachel! Like I mentioned, they are a returning couple. Last summer, Jordan planned to propose to Rachel during a trip to Glacier National Park. You can check out their surprise proposal here! While these lovers were most recently based in Kansas City, they relocated to Colorado to fuel their love for the mountains. When we started dreaming up what their sunrise elopement would look like, their requests were simple. While the “kickass mountain views” and a stress-free day were a given, Jordan and Rachel also wanted to enjoy a cup of coffee together after exchanging private vows. Done and done!
Jordan and Rachel’s adventurous sunrise elopement began at 5:30 AM with a first look by lantern glow. It was such a sweet spin on the typical “lantern bridal portraits” to see them used for a first look! The warmth emanating from the lanterns paired with the moody blue hour before the sun began to rise was magic. I’m a sucker for a good blue hour moment! These ladies (wearing HEELS, mind you) began the hike to Lost Gulch Overlook while the rest of the city was still in partial darkness. Atop Flagstaff Mountain, Jordan and Rachel shared heartfelt handwritten vows. We couldn’t have been luckier to have such a serene morning, with just the slightest breeze floating through the ladies’ hair. Beyoncé moment = achieved. It was so special to just witness yet another chapter in this genuine, kind couple’s love story.
As the sun continued the ascent into the blue sky, Jordan and Rachel enjoyed their coffee overlooking the city of Boulder. Both of their dresses complimented one another effortlessly. Jordan’s delicate spaghetti strap satin gown had a lace bodice, a dramatic slit, and a lace appliqué train. Rachel wore a fitted satin gown with lace long sleeves, lace detailing around the hem, flowing into her train. And yet again, I must mention that these ladies wore HEELS on the cliffside. But that was literally nothing for these two; summiting mountains and seeking adventure is their love language. We spent some time taking bridal portraits in the beautiful morning light at Lost Gulch before making our way to Artist’s Point to continue.
After wrapping up early morning bridal portraits, we made our way to Chautauqua Park for Jordan and Rachel’s intimate family ceremony. Beneath the blue sky, their families and closest friends stood by as one of their best friends officiated. Their sweet pup sat patiently by as his moms committed to a joyful lifetime together (in the presence of some kickass mountain views, of course). The brides then popped champagne, toasted to their future, and shared a first dance in the sprawling grassy field. We then snagged some newlywed portraits before parting ways.
Documenting Jordan and Rachel’s Boulder, Colorado sunrise elopement at Lost Gulch was the greatest joy. I remember when Jordan reached out about the proposal to Rachel, stating that she has “she is my best friend and I have always been sure about her”. It’s precisely those little things that remain with me. The love between two people is such a gift. And getting to document that gift to be cherished for a lifetime is truly my greatest joy. I can’t wait to see where Jordan and Rachel’s love story takes them to next, but until then, I’ll just be over here reminiscing until further notice.
