Early Fall Elopement at Sun Point

March 19, 2026

Early Fall elopement in Glacier National Park beneath a full moon

If you’ve been an avid reader of the blog for a while, or you’re familiar with the weather in Northwest Montana, you’ll know just how unpredictable it can be. As I’m writing this blog, reflecting on Travis and Abbie’s early Fall elopement at Sun Point, we have 50 degree days on the horizon. But in that same breath, snow is also forecasted. Whether it’s an early October day with sun forecasted, or a late March day following a snow storm, you never know what Montana has in store. Add a wedding into the mix and it’s an adventure!

One of the first things I mention to my couples when planning for their big day is how important it is to be prepared for ever-changing weather conditions in Glacier National Park. Thankfully, Travis and Abbie were able to roll with the punches and embrace the cold, snowy weather during their early October nuptials. Their big day began with a first look at their Kalispell Airbnb. Loved ones gathered on the deck of the beautiful lodge while Travis and Abbie shared their special moment on the property’s lawn overlooking snowcapped mountains in the distance.

After wrapping up on the front lawn, we made the 2 hour drive from Kalispell to Sun Point. A cold, blustery wind greeted us upon our arrival. But thankfully, the sun was shining and we couldn’t have asked for better views overlooking St. Mary Lake. Travis and Abbie’s loved ones surrounded the sweet couple while they exchanged heartfelt, joyful vows. Golden sunshine twinkled off the choppy water below, making for the most breathtaking newlywed portraits. And if I’m being totally honest, the wind was a blessing — Abbie’s flowing veil floating in the breeze was truly magical.

We found respite from the wind among a grove of trees, the golden sunshine peeking through the trees creating our own little oasis. I had the time of my life getting to play with Abbies’ veil, capturing every little pearl and whimsical detail. After warming up a little bit, we headed to Rising Sun Beach where we were once again spoiled with our own little oasis. St. Mary Lake twinkled in the background, while little puddles created enchanting reflections of the newlyweds on the shore.

After frolicking along a deserted road, we headed to Ranger Station for some final newlywed portraits among the mountains. Before we knew it, the moon made its long awaited appearance. The sky looked like the most delectable cotton-candy. I can firmly say that I will never recover from this moment under the moon alongside Travis and Abbie.
