As a Montana elopement and intimate wedding photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to do some wild things in my career. I’ve been documenting love stories for over 7 years now, which means: I’ve seen a thing or two. One of the coolest parts of my job though, is getting to cross destinations and experiences off my bucket list with epic couples. So when my dear friend (and former associate) asked me to document her and her husband’s anniversary in a helicopter, I was sold. Abi and Josh’s Alaska helicopter anniversary couples session was a moment that I will relive for a lifetime.
This anniversary session wasn’t the first “big moment” I’ve had the honor of documenting for Abi and Josh. In May 2021, I photographed their bridal portraits in Zion National Park and it was a dream. One month later, they tied the knot amongst their closest friends and family (talk about the best of both worlds). It felt like a full-circle moment getting to photograph their anniversary session in Alaska!
I was completely overjoyed when they asked me to accompany them on a helicopter for some epic mountain and glacier views. The entire experience flew by (no pun intended) so dang quickly. Alpine Air Alaska provided the most incredible experience. From the dramatic landscapes to the sculpted glaciers, and the abundant wildlife below, there was no shortage of beauty to capture. There’s something so surreal about landing on a glacier, feeling the history beneath your feet, and just standing in awe of such beauty. This was actually my second time on a helicopter in Alaska (the first being my engagement!), and it gets better every time. Truly such an elevated experience and unique way to take in the abundance that is the Last Frontier.
To say that I’m already counting down to the next time I’m in Alaska would be an understatement. Spoiler alert: I’ll be there in March, June, and July 2024. So if you are also looking to hop in a helicopter or float plane to take in some beauty just like Abi and Josh’s Alaska helicopter anniversary couples session, you can inquire here. Be sure to follow along on the ‘Gram to be notified of my latest travels + upcoming destinations. As always, you can find more swoon-worthy couples over on the blog. But until next time, are you ready to wander?
