If you ask me, Minnesota is such an underrated state to elope in. Minnesota boasts Lake Superior – which features breathtaking views of dramatic cliffs and towering forests of pine, cedar, and birch trees. But believe it or not, Minnesota has something in common with both Hawaii and Iceland… a black sand beach! Talk about a hidden gem. Makenzie and Clayton’s North Shore, Minnesota elopement features (almost) all the good things that the beautiful state has to offer.
Like all elopements and weddings I have the pleasure of capturing, Makenzie and Clayton’s will forever hold such a soft spot in my heart (for a really special reason). Makenzie and I have been best friends since we were 3 years old. In June, I was able to stand beside her for her traditional wedding reception in New York. Flash forward to July, Makenzie and Clayton came to Minnesota to privately say their vows and explore a new place as husband and wife.
After exploring New York in June, I was so excited to show my friends one of the places I hold closest to my heart. We road tripped from Southern Minnesota to Duluth, then traveling up the shore toward Grand Marais. Throughout the 5 day trip, we camped, indulged in good food, and hiked some incredible trails. Halfway through the trip, we stopped at one of Minnesota’s best kept secrets. Makenzie and Clayton changed into their wedding attire to say their vows, with nature as their witness. As the sun began to set, they splashed around barefoot in the cold Lake Superior water hand-in-hand.
It truly was such an honor to capture Makenzie and Clayton’s North Shore, Minnesota elopement. Exploring new and old places has always filled my cup, so getting to explore with adventurous couples makes my cup run over.
