If you know me, you know I’m not one to to turn down an adventure. So when Tyler and Lauren reached out to me just a few weeks before their honeymoon in Breckenridge, Colorado, I jumped at the opportunity to capture more love in the mountains. Luckily, my boyfriend Ethan is always down for a spontaneous trip, too! Tyler and Lauren’s Colorado Winter Adventure Session was such a fun, spontaneous little getaway.
Ethan and I got on the road from Minnesota, heading to Colorado on a Saturday. We were honestly so excited to spend our free time hiking and ice fishing. When we got to Colorado, we scouted locations on Sunday and Monday before our sunrise session on Tuesday. Tyler and Lauren also roadtripped from their home in Texas. On the day of their winter adventure session, we met up at a bright and early 6:45 am to catch the Sunrise at Dillon Reservoir. Lauren wore the jean jacket (featuring her new last name) that she had worn on their wedding day. So sweet!
After an incredible sunrise at Dillon Reservoir, we drove to Officer’s Gulch to capture some portraits in the pines. But if you’re with me for an adventure session, you know we’re going to try something a little bit different 😉 We ventured out onto a frozen pond (which they had never seen before, being from Texas!). We found a cute little bridge that had stunning panoramic views of the area.
When we wrapped up at Officer’s Gulch, we drove down to Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir to do a snowy winter hike around the frozen reservoir. We hiked along the deep, snow-covered trail; so deep that Lauren had to empty her boots. We couldn’t stop laughing as the snow reached our knees in some spots! Tyler and Lauren are such an easy going couple, though, so we all were just having a blast. While hiking the trail, they popped some champagne (a necessity for any shoot, in my opinion) and continued to hike to an opening. When we got to our “destination”, the views of the peaks were breathtaking. As an avid hiker, I was so glad I brought spikes for us to all use. Safety first, friends! What to Pack for a Mountain Elopement has a list of what to bring during an elopement or a mountain adventure session.
Spending the day with Tyler and Lauren in Colorado was such a fun way to capture another chapter of a love story. I *highly* recommend an adventure session on your honeymoon. I mean, how could you say no to that after these epic shots!? I am so thankful for this job, for the couples I get to meet, and for endless adventures.
